Breast Augmentation (Augmentation Mammoplasty)

Breast enlargement is one of the most frequently performed aesthetic surgeries in the U.S. Some women may have small or unevenly sized breasts and others may have a loss of breast volume after breast feeding. This procedure can give you fuller, firmer and better proportioned breasts through the use of implants. You have a choice of either saline or silicone implants, both of which will be thoroughly discussed during your consultation so you can properly weigh the pros and cons of each. For best results, the implants are placed under the chest wall muscle through tiny incisions under the breast or around the areola. It is possible to do this via the armpits or navel but these approaches have some limitations. Your consultation will cover the best alternatives for your particular situation and needs. Breast augmentations generally take about an hour and a half and are typically done under general anesthesia. Several measurements are taken of your breasts and chest wall to help you choose the right size of implants. You are also provided with written and web-based educational materials to help make the right choices. Sometimes a breast lift is combined with an augmentation to give the best results.

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

When breasts have sagged as a result of aging, weight loss or breast feeding, breast implant surgery alone may not give the desired aesthetic result. A breast lift combined with breast augmentation is often needed to achieve the youthful look you desire.  The procedure itself involves bringing the nipple to a higher level, reshaping the breast tissue and removing extra skin. The procedure allows you to wear clothes more effectively and restore self confidence, especially when you want to wear more revealing attire.

Breast Reduction (Reduction Mammoplasty)

It is not uncommon for some women to have extremely large breasts that are a source of real discomfort. This may include upper back and neck aches, skin rashes under the breasts and interference with daily living. It is also often difficult to find well fitting clothes and bras. Breast reduction surgery is an effective way to alleviate these symptoms and improve quality of life. The procedure is done under general anesthesia and takes about three hours. For more extreme cases and depending on the medical issues involved, a breast reduction might be covered by insurance.

Male Breast Reduction

Enlargement of the male breast is not uncommon. This condition can be highly embarrassing and physically uncomfortable. Some males may have an underlying medical problem causing the enlargement but most have no known cause attributable to this. The procedure is done through a small incision around the darkened area around the nipple with a combination of liposuction and removal of excess gland tissue, thereby restoring a male contour of the chest wall.

There are many techniques for breast reconstruction ranging from the simple use of implants to the most complex microsurgical procedures involving skin and fat transfers from the abdomen to the chest wall. It takes a highly skilled surgeon to do this correctly. All options are discussed thoroughly and patients should be comfortable with the surgeon's experience.
